Poetry across the Curriculum Bringing poetry to life through music, art and performance

Words, Music, Glee & Delight

An innovative, engaging and fun poetry workshop with professional poet Ian McMillan and Musician Luke Carver Goss.

Exploring creative words and music to help pupils engage in poetry.

Ian McMillan is one of the UK’s best known contemporary poets, having produced a magnitude of books, prose and plays and also appearing on television and all the national BBC radio channels. He has written for a diverse range of newspapers and magazines and has spent time as a poet in residence in a wide range of places including Barnsley FC and Humberside Police.

Teacher’s/Literacy leads may want to identify more able, gifted/ talented pupils to take part in the pupil poetry workshops with Ian McMillan and Luke Carver Goss on the 19th & 20th September. We recommend you send pairs of pupils (Key Stage 2 only) who can work together to create an illustrated poem. Some poems will be selected to form part of the North Lincolnshire Pride of place Poetry Anthology.

  • Children enjoy learning, writing, reading and performing poetry.
  • Teaching staff feel more confident in the teaching and delivery of poetry and are more knowledge of how other aspects of the curriculum can used to bring poetry to life in and out of the classroom.
