Research Lead: Support and Improve the Quality of Teaching and Learning

Research Lead

Outline

To support schools to initiate this role in North Lincolnshire, the innovative Research Lead Programme has been designed to be completed over three terms—Autumn 2017 thro’ Spring/Summer of 2018. Now in it’s second year within North Lincolnshire, this programme has now established a professional network of practitioners working in both primary and secondary schools, who continue to be supported by both staff at Huntington Research School and local authority officers, in order to effectively implement, embed and evaluate major school effectiveness initiatives.

The role of the Research-lead is an innovative response, led by forward thinking schools, to enhance their leadership and management capacity as our education system undertakes rapid and complex changes. This leadership role takes a strategic approach to school challenges by providing responsibility for surveying the best evidence available to make crucial school decisions. Akin to most school leadership roles, it is undertake in different ways in different school contexts. That being said, the role holds as its central tenets:

  • A Research-lead can help shape senior leader decision-making by accessing, interpreting and distilling the best evidence available
  • A Research-lead can help support and improve the quality of teaching and learning by contributing to CPD, or informing CPD in other ways, such as sharing useful tools
  • A Research-lead can find solutions for school issues and, where appropriate, access external expertise, funding and develop partnerships, such as HEI links
  • A Research-lead can help improve the implementation and evaluation of important school developments
